It’s Official, Occupiers Are Rockstars: @OccupySandy

( ***  175 ways/places to help Sandy victims – November 8 2012 NZDT )

Occupy Wall Street are rocking the Hurricane Sandy recovery process. Though still overwhelmed by the work to be done, the Occupy community has pulled together to fill the gaps in the government response to the disaster.

In our Hurricane Sandy mega post, published here 1am October 29th 2012, we put together a large amount of media resources and supporting information. We are endeavouring to continue updating it on an as-able basis. We hope you find it of use.

It has had over 700 shares already and we believe was one of the first articles to show Occupy and Anonymous engaging in support and direct actions for Hurricane Sandy victims. It is a beautiful and poignant moment to show the true heart in our movements.

No longer can we be branded domestic terrorists. The truth is out. We are domestic (and international!) humanitarians.

This New York Times piece is the most moving we’ve ever read from them: for once, even the MSM with all their historical shortcomings, have finally picked up a legitimate narrative.

This great short video says it all. “Occupy Sandy – We Got This.”

Most Banging Auckland Protest Video Ever #ANFS #J14

Rainbow Wiri – a pillar of NZ citizen videography, has compiled this STUNNING mash-up of #ANFS #J14 Auckland action last Saturday July 14, 2002.

He interviews a number of protesters of different ages and backgrounds and even manages to catch up with @endarken from Twitter for a chat about the widespread opposition to the sale of public assets and infrastructure in New Zealand. (Circa 05:49 to 07:28)

The soundtrack to the video had me dancing in my chair watching it – opening with “Chains” by Che Fu & moving into the audio from King Kapisi’s #J14 set – performed in the intersection of Queen St & Customs St in Auckland Central, at the beginning of the Aotearoa Is Not For Sale march. Finishes up with Kapisi’s “Stand”. Gorgeous soul reggae from the heart of Aotearoa.

Michael Moore & Susan Sarandon: Under Surveillance

With the Murdochs all over the news (how ironic) as their corrupt empire continues to implode, Michael Moore and Susan Sarandon are interviewed about the prevalence of surveillance of Americans & in Sarandon’s case, reveal that they too have lost their personal privacy for daring to have a political voice, as their Government is voyeur to their every move.

#Harvard #BostonCollege & #NYU faculty hold #Occupy Teach-in in Cambridge MA

Eight faculty members from Harvard, Boston College, and N.Y.U. gathered in Cambridge to present a day-long Occupy Teach-In. So good to see the movement gain more intellectual momentum.

How Goldman Sachs and Other Companies Exploit Port Truck Drivers

Companies such as Goldman Sachs are profiting off the backs of port truck drivers, a class of exploited workers who are a crucial lynch-pin in the American economy. This is a long read but well worth the time.

Occupy Wall Street Video Montage to Rage Against The Machine’s “Freedom”

Take a walk with me down memory lane: Northcote College, 1997 SFC Music end of year final performance exam, I ate breathed & slept with my bass guitar at that time so I put together a band & performed the song “Freedom” by Rage Against The Machine with my childhood friend Dave playing electric guitar. Back then he was the boyfriend of the NZ soul singer Hollie Smith (she was 4th form, we were 6th) & we rocked it for a class that included the only other chick bassist at NC, Maree Thom, most recently of Don McGlashan & the Seven Sisters. Watching this video clip after YEARS of not having heard the song… I still remember every word & every note. We are the 99%.
